Hey, CS Guy, it's funny. They made the course harder this year. Let's see you bust through that.

Anonymous said...

i can do that, i just don't want to

Anonymous said...

ok. to refute the supposed "ease" that many digg-ers (aka simple minded nay-sayers) will inevitably start claiming about this course (you morons remind me of slashdotters, but without credentials and jobs):

NAGANO MAKES IT LOOK EASY. He trains daily in a hardcore style (cliffhanger exercises on the side of a tall bridge w/o protection, pushup handstands on the top of his boat's mast, and other wild stunts you would never sanely do on a regular basis). If you've actually watched the show, you'll know that ALL types of people fail, including olympic gold medalists, unnaturally buff firemen, and gymnasts/trampolinists with perfect balance.

to beat the entire course requires diligence, training, the right combination of execution, agility, and a WHOLE lot of strength.

so to all you who say "i can do that": fuck off cause guess what- unless you show up on the show and prove it, we know you cant. nagano is in a league of his own.

amazing. amazing.

amazing, that guy is a king among men!

@ cs guy: arent all cs players weak morons? i doubt you find it easy climbing the stairs.. silly bugger

.. sorry i mean j00 n0ob!1!!!

i could prob do the 1st and 3rd stage , some bits in second stage. must admit it looks fucking difficult.

yoda_143 said...

How much money did he win for this?

mubix said...

there has actually been a 3rd and another 500 or so that haven't made it. But I agree with some of you who say it's hard. It is, and there is no way I could complete all 3 stages, I could probably make it to stage 2, but the curtain hang and cliffhanger would get me.

Anonymous said...

That is amazing.

For those that claim you could do what he did, I'd pay to watch you dreamers try and fail. Even the guy in the video barely made it.

Stop talking, start proving.

Anonymous said...

That is freaking amazing, I might be able to make it to the second stage but that's it, the amount of endurance, balance, and raw strenth you would have to have to complete everything is ridiculous.

Most of the people here who are saying they could do this aren't taking fatigue into account.

Sure if you could maintain the same amount of power through out the entire event it would be easy. But the reality is by the halfway mark most people's bodies and concentration would be ready to give out, and it only gets harder and more demanding.

It requires a balance between power, speed, and agility, as well as being able to calm your nerves and concentrate for the next hurdle. That guy is in a class all his own.

Anonymous said...

Amazing... But why the heck do Japanese people talk so angry?

Anonymous said...

I don't see what the big deal is. If you were the first person to try the course or you were overweight and out of shape I could understand it being hard. After watching the guy finish it I could easily do the same it just might take a little longer. Not impressed at all.

Anonymous said...

^^^
to person above, its a 3 stage course. And olympic athletes, such as paul hamm has failed to make it past stage 3.

its pretty impressive i would say

Anonymous said...

I think I could do some parts of it, but no way I could do 1 of those course complete. I could do one part, rest for like 2 hours, and do the next part.

It would be a lot of fun to go drunk with some friends and laugh our asses off at the falls.

This show has been on Japanese Tv for years. This is nothing really new. Some of the high ESPN's have been showcasing it late at night. G4 now carries it.

Anonymous said...

im sorry but the guys said that it would take them much longer to do, yea of course if you wait after each one to get your full breath. Other than the last stage every other stage is Timed which makes it all the more difficult to complete in a timeley manner so there really is no time to rest.

grow up.

Unknown said...

Man that is crazy. But I am glad to see someone can do it. I would not have made it pass stage 2.

Ben said...

This is a crazy awesome show. It's on G4 a lot. Anyone who claims they can do this sort of stuff is lying unless they're one of the few who've done it. They have tons of famous athletes on the show. They even had the Hamm twins that were on the US gymnastics team. Good to see someone make it though. It gets boring seeing people fail over and over.

Andy said...

I love the comments here, between the people who [jokingly] post that "I could do that", and then the follow up by all the psychos who think anyone who said that was even remotely serious.

I don't know who to "lol" at. Someone help me.

Back on topic, "wow! That last part! Wow!"

Anonymous said...

Chuck Norris could do that . . . backwards!

Anonymous said...

if he didnt take ten minutes between each stage, or obstacle, i'd be more amazed, but that course couldnt hold a candle to that of some navy seal training courses...at best it was pretty neat...whatever..tony jaa could do that with one arm....blind

Anonymous said...

i know the toll that shit takes on your arms, I'm a rock climber... and that is some intense shit. i could make the first round.. Mayb the second, definitely not the third considering they do everything in a day. My arms would be dead by that point. Tony Jaa could do it for sure but idk how extremely well he could do it. i mean look at those firemen on that show!? those guys have like 2% body fat and don't even finish the third round...

Anonymous said...

Fisherman?...my ass. That guy is an elite acrobat with superhuman stength.

Anonymous said...

If I wasn't on my period, I coulda did that.

Anonymous said...

this guy rocks.

Well, I'm in pretty good shape an do rock climbing to. I sure couldn't do that.
But I would fucking like to try ! Those obstacle truly looks like a lot of fun.

Anonymous said...

I'm a very, very athletic person, with a great amount of balance and strength distribution. I know my body very well, having taken multiple martial arts, have wrestled, run track, played rugby, and taken gymnastics lessons.

I can tell you right now that first stage would probably take me out, unless I seriously trained for it, and it alone, for a good 8-12 months. That curved wall at the end of the first stage, most of you would never get up it, and you probably can't even fathom how hard that is.

As for the later stages, well...assuming angels picked you up and carried you over the last obstacle on course one, I want you all to try something. Go to your hallway, hold your bodies up against the walls, and move to the other end without touching the floor, and only placing one hand and foot on each wall. If you can do that, then I might accept you can get to stage 2.

Stage 3 is like scaling a 6-8 story building in 30 seconds.

Anonymous said...

This reminds me of that old SNL skit with Chris Farley.

I swear I'd rather have electrodes strapped to my nuts than go through that.

Anonymous said...

Makoto Nagano is the man. I will concur wit hte anonymous poster below in saying everyone saying "i can do that" is VASTLY mistaken. Nagano trains 6 hours daily, specifically for this competition, and it took him over 7 years and 14 tries to complete the course. It takes a fine balance of speed, agility, balance, and strength to complete the Ninja Warrior course. Only 2 out of 1800 contestants have completed all 4 stages.

Anonymous said...

According to wikipedia, winners get 2 000 000 yen, which is about $16700 US. Also, those saying they could do this should know the producer of the show build a theme park (musclepark.jp) in Tokyo based on this and related programs. Go play there, see how you do.

Cerebral said...

WOW!!! I am very surprised. I can't believe that he did that.

OMG... this guy is mey new idol, i want to be able to do that...WOW!

Unknown said...

I'm sitting here next to an amazing climber and even he admits that the last stage requires special training beyond the scope of rockclimbing. The motion required to ascent the parallel walls is specialized. However, he does claim that the rope would be better managed given its diameter. In fact, he says that he'd pinch it with his feet using his legs in the ascent. He's climbed 60ft up rockfaces in 423 seconds, so even he'd have to train quite a bit to take on this challenge.
There are only a few hundred people in the world who could accomplish this feat!

Papi said...

Had to throw in my opinion on this one.

Being anonymous postings on the blogsphere, it is impossible to say how in shape, athletic, and hard working many of these people are who say they could complete the course I just witnessed.

I wouldnt say i am in fantastic shape, but I do workout everyday, teach spin classes in the gym, and out of all the people i know, in better shape than all but 2 or 3 of them.

I also train for triathlons, and riding a bike 30-40 miles barely breaks a sweat on me...but only my best day, with the Gods smiling down on me, and perhaps some springs in my shoes, could I ever even think of getting past stage one, especially the last jump.

I am with the poster above...try holding your weight up with your arms and legs against two walls (first step), then actually try to move...999/1000 people couldnt do it...i am one of the 999.

I dont know why it bugs me people arent giving this guy props, but i am only able to guess at the type of dedication and commitment, not to mention inhuman shape this man must be in to do what i just saw...

...if not congratulated, the accomplishment should at least be respected.

My hats off to Mr. Magato Nagamo

Anonymous said...

Okay; so I know you all either think you can do this w/out breaking a sweat, or you think this guy is un-freakin'-believable . But I just had to let you all know that while it certainly looks somewhat challenging, I'm quite sure I could do it, and I'll happily prove it just as soon as I deal with that dastardly Lex Luther

Damn awesome I would like to do that too. I want to test me how far I come.

Anonymous said...

He's also the only guy to reach the Final Stage of the Viking Obstacle Course. He didn't pass it but he's the only one to come close

Anonymous said...

Haha a bunch of moronic Americans saying they can do more than 5 seconds of this...pitiful.

Anonymous said...

It's a FOUR stage course. Stage three is all upper body. I assumed that everyone commenting that they could do it were ... JOKING. But, then again, maybe there are that many morons in this world!

Nagano is incredible. There are other all-stars that are impressive, but Nagano has always had a good showing. Well, almost always. Like the human he is, he's failed to complete Stage One at least once that I've seen so far.

It's an awesome contest and the narrator is quite entertaining. Love it! Love it! Love it! The women, although pitiful, are very fun to watch. Maybe I'll be the first woman to complete the first stage. Although that would be my only goal. Maybe second stage, but the Spider Walk would be extremely hard for me. Even in the event that I made it past that stage, Stage Three would not even be a possibility. I'm too short for the Body Prop (assuming I could make it that far...and I wouldn't).

Nagano is my dream man. Too bad there would be a language barrier. Although maybe that would be a good thing! Make for a better relationship if we couldn't commuicate except thru smiles and sex.

Anonymous said...

Of the Four stages, stage Three has no time limit. Stage one is 85/100 seconds (I've seen both). Stage two is 60 seconds. Stage three as mentioned about has no limit. And the Final Stage (four) is 30 seconds.

That was actually more fun than the clip. But the clip was amazing.

anyone got an idea how I can get to try out for the show? 2 years time I will be ready. I love it!!

I can appreicat that the competition is really tough. like they said only 2 out of over 500 have ever made it. But I ahve yet to see a black man try.

Just to set the record straight, only 2 out of 2000 people have beat it and only about 30 have ever made it to the final stage and that includes repeats of previous people. I'd give 1000 dollars to anyone who claims they could conquer even one stage of this thing. The jokers are one thing, but the people on here that actually think they can do it are just stupid.

Uhh...you people DO know that after Nagano's success in climbing the tower, they totally remodeled all 4 stages into Makoto Nagano hard, right?

Don't believe me? Just look at the latest videos of Ninja Warrior 2007 here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMXucDQPW0c
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjKgSIt0fE4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib-7KeA8-6E&mode=related&search=

Hopefully this shuts up any future jokes that people will make say (for example) "OH I CAN BEAT THIS SHIT WITH NO HANDS!"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwRSvRCmng8&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ejapanprobe%2Ecom%2F%3Fp%3D1414

Black man tries and fails. From new 2007 course.

For those looking for internet vids, there aren't many. I have the best luck searching on YouTube under the competitors names. Some folks have put together compilations (similar to this one) of their favorite competitors through all stages for a given competition (generally twice a year). G4 website also has a few vids with Americans competing in this (the Hamm twins and decathalon Paul Terek), as well as one clip of the female champion for her version of the competition.

And if you think Nagano is a badass after watching this, checkout his Viking Challenge competition (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50YPhbj-hnw). That course was sick and he was about 5 feet away from beating it on his first try before he just ran out of gas.
